Welcome New CBS Venue - The Rusty Bucket
Please welcome CBS’ newest business/venue member- the Rusty Bucket Bar and Grill at 3355 S. Wadsworth in Lakewood (303-980-6200) Owner and business manager Ron Rosso is rapidly turning the ‘Bucket into one of the hottest blues clubs in the area. You can find live blues music 3-4 times a week, and great blues jams hosted by Erik Boa or the Deltasonics 4-6 times a month. In fact, the Rusty Bucket Jams hosted by Erik Boa and Bad Brad were a 2014 CBS Members Choice Award winner. The club is pulling in the best of the Colorado bands and recent headliners have been: Eef & the Blues Express, Austin Young, The Roustabouts, Bad Brad, Johnny O, Brian Hornbuckle, Reckless Red and the list keeps growing. And there is never a cover. Good bands, good food from a full menu, great service, a friendly staff, and good prices are responsible for the growing customer base. It’s a big place with plenty of room and great outside patio as well. Come on out and say ‘hi’ to Ron and let him know you are a fellow CBS member and happy to have another great blues venue to attend!
International Blues Challenge Update
Bad Brad and The Fat Cats Made It To The Finals!
They were one of nine bands that made it to the finals out of a total of 255 artists! We are all very proud of them and how they represented our Colorado blues community. We also congratulate Cary Morin for making it to the Semi-finals in the Solo/Duo completion. And Jack Gaffney for his performances in the Youth Showcase.
It was great seeing a bunch of CBS members at the IBC Finals in Memphis! CBS members who attended the big event were Chick & Patti Cavallero, Scott & Tracy Fitzke, Kyle Deibler, Brian Shunaman, Kenny Wilcox, Marc Wilson, Storm Koski, Deb Stafford, Rob Wattles, Zaida Zoller, Dave & Priscilla Kropuenske, Roger Vickroy & Erica Brown, Mike Saparow, Andrea Buell, George & Amy Whitesell, Big Jim Adam, Lionel Young and John Catt. Once again, Memphis validated our local IBC competition and judges. All of the Colorado entries made the semi-finals, and for the 4th time in 4 years a CBS act - Bad Brad & the Fat Cats stood on the Orpheum stage for the Memphis Finals. Congratulations to all of the Colorado acts for such a great showing. Bad Brad, Cary Morin and Jack Gaffney for the Colorado Blues Society and The Eleven Mile Band and Boogie Shoes from the Pikes Peak Blues Community. Both Colorado Blues Societies were well represented and supported! We heard from many blues societies and performers who were impressed by the number of Colorado fans that were there.
IBC Send-Off and Members Choice Awards Event - Sunday Jan 12, 2014
It was a great send-off for Bad Brad and the Fat Cats, Cary Morin, and Jack Gaffney as they represent Colorado in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. What a celebration it was! See the List of winners of all of the 2014 Member's Choice Awards. All net proceeds go to support the Blues Foundation's Raise the Roof campaign.

John-Alex Mason Scholarship Fund
The Colorado Blues Society is creating an annual John-Alex Mason Scholarship to honor his memory and help continue the educational work he felt was so important. John-Alex took high school students from Colorado Springs to Mississippi on more than one occasion for an extended field trip that sometimes included visiting Memphis and New Orleans. This scholarship will help send student-aged musicians from Colorado to workshops and seminars that will further their blues music (and cultural) education. Your donations will help keep the dreams and memory of John-Alex alive.
Want Your Music Featured in the CBS Website Music Player?
CBS members can send us an MP3 (320kbps preferred) of your music via email addressed to the webmaster and we will add it to the rotation. The rotation order will be shuffled monthly. In the email please include your permission for us to stream the music to our members and site visitors. If you do not own the rights to the music, please do not send it.
Colorado Blues Society Mission Statement
The Colorado Blues Society is dedicated to increasing awareness of and appreciation for the Blues as an indigenous American Art form (and the wellspring from which all contemporary popular American music originated).
Programs and Services Offered
To further our mission, we sponsor Blues in the Schools programs, in which musicians present music and information to students at all levels (kindergarten through college). We offer programs in American social history, women in blues, language arts, conflict avoidance, storytelling and even math.
We also donate Blues-related materials (books, videos and CDs) to public libraries and offer educational programs in conjunction with those donations. Because many musicians learn to perform during jam sessions, we sponsor blues jams in several Colorado locations. We also work with other nonprofits, such as The Blues Foundation, Volunteers of America, Hudson Gardens, Swallow Hill Music Association, the Business of Art Center in Manitou Springs, and Performance International. Our members number approximately 583 and range in age from 17 to 75. Some are professional musicians; most are fans of the music and culture of the blues.
We also publish a newsletter, The Holler, and maintain a web presence at http://www.coblues.com. The purpose of the newsletter and web site is to provide information to our members and the public about blues-related events in Colorado.
We work with local nonprofits, civic organizations and businesses to strengthen the awareness and appreciation of the blues as an art form.
The Colorado Blues Society is a 501(c)(3) organization.
